The 2026 season is a landmark one for MotoGP, both on the calendar and behind the scenes.
It is the longest schedule yet: 22 Grands Prix, opening in Thailand in March and closing at the traditional finale in Valencia in late November. The standout change is the return of Brazil, back after two decades away at a revamped circuit in Goiânia.
2026 also ends a technical era. It is the last season on 1000cc engines and Michelin tyres. From 2027, sweeping new rules cut engine capacity to 850cc and switch the championship to Pirelli tyres — so this is the final year for the current generation of bikes.
Off track, it is the first full season under new ownership: Liberty Media, the group behind Formula 1, completed its takeover of Dorna — MotoGP's commercial promoter — in 2025. New to the sport? Start with what MotoGP is.
