Founded: 1963
Major titles: 10 Constructors' + 13 Drivers' championships (F1)
McLaren was founded in 1963 by New Zealand driver Bruce McLaren and entered its first Formula 1 World Championship race in 1966. After Bruce's death in a 1970 testing accident, the team endured and grew into a title-winning force.
Its first Drivers' Championship came with Emerson Fittipaldi in 1974, and the team's 1980s revival under Ron Dennis produced dominant seasons with Niki Lauda, Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna. Mika Hakkinen added back-to-back titles in 1998 and 1999, and Lewis Hamilton won the first of his championships with the team in 2008.
After a long drought, McLaren returned to the front in the mid-2020s, winning the Constructors' Championship in 2024 and 2025. Lando Norris's 2025 title was the team's first Drivers' crown since 2008.
In total McLaren has won 13 Drivers' and 10 Constructors' Championships across eight different champion drivers, making it one of the most successful teams in the sport's history. It is based in Woking, England.
