Founded: 1948
Major titles: Record 19 Le Mans 24 Hours overall wins; numerous sports car titles
Porsche, the German sports car manufacturer founded in 1948, is the most successful marque in the history of the Le Mans 24 Hours, with a record 19 overall victories.
Its first outright Le Mans win came in 1970 with the legendary 917, followed by a period of dominance that included seven consecutive victories from 1981 to 1987 — with the 936 in 1981, then the 956 and 962. Porsche returned to the top class in the 2010s and won three straight Le Mans titles from 2015 to 2017 with the 919 Hybrid.
Porsche's motorsport reach extends far beyond Le Mans. It has won countless sports car and GT championships, powered McLaren to Formula 1 titles as the TAG engine badge in the mid-1980s, and competed in categories from Can-Am to Formula E and the Dakar Rally.
The marque returned to top-flight prototype racing with the 963 for the WEC and North America's IMSA series, continuing one of the deepest and most respected competition legacies in all of motorsport.
