What is the history of Scuderia Ferrari in Formula 1?

Formula 1's oldest and most successful team, founded by Enzo Ferrari in 1929, holder of a record 16 Constructors' and 15 Drivers' titles.

Founded: 1929
Major titles: Record 16 Constructors' + 15 Drivers' championships (F1)

Scuderia Ferrari is the oldest and most successful team in Formula 1, and the only constructor to have competed in every World Championship season since the series began in 1950.

Enzo Ferrari founded the Scuderia in 1929, initially to race Alfa Romeos before the company began building its own cars in the late 1940s. Ferrari's first Drivers' Championship came with Alberto Ascari in 1952, and further titles followed with champions including Juan Manuel Fangio, Phil Hill, John Surtees, Niki Lauda and Jody Scheckter.

The team's greatest era arrived in the 2000s, when Michael Schumacher won five consecutive Drivers' Championships (2000-2004) and Ferrari took six straight Constructors' crowns between 1999 and 2004. Kimi Raikkonen delivered the team's most recent Drivers' title in 2007, with its last Constructors' Championship following in 2008.

In total Ferrari holds a record 16 Constructors' and 15 Drivers' Championships. Based in Maranello, Italy, and known as the Prancing Horse, it remains one of the sport's benchmark and most popular teams, though a title has eluded it since 2008.
