What is the history of Toyota Gazoo Racing in endurance racing?

Toyota's factory team broke through at Le Mans in 2018 and has won the 24 Hours six times, alongside multiple WEC World Championship titles.

Major titles: 6 Le Mans 24 Hours wins (2018-2022, 2026); multiple WEC World titles

Toyota Gazoo Racing is the Japanese manufacturer's factory sports car team in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). Toyota first contested the Le Mans 24 Hours in the 1980s and endured decades of heartbreak and near-misses, including a famous late failure while leading in 2016.

Its long-awaited first Le Mans victory finally came in 2018, with Fernando Alonso, Sebastien Buemi and Kazuki Nakajima sharing the winning car. The team then won the race five years in a row (2018-2022) with its TS050 and GR010 Hybrid prototypes, and added a further victory at the 2026 edition.

Toyota also dominated the WEC's top class for several seasons, taking a run of drivers' and manufacturers' World Championship title doubles before Ferrari ended its championship run in 2025.

Operated largely from Cologne, Germany, and competing under the Le Mans Hypercar rules, Toyota Gazoo Racing remains one of the leading manufacturers in modern endurance racing and a cornerstone of Toyota's broader motorsport identity.
