Major titles: 9 WRC Manufacturers' titles (1993, 1994, 1999, 2018, 2021-2025)
Toyota has a long and successful history in the World Rally Championship (WRC). Its works effort traces back to Toyota Team Europe, established in the 1970s and based in Cologne, Germany, which delivered manufacturers' titles in 1993, 1994 and 1999 and drivers' championships for Carlos Sainz, Juha Kankkunen and Didier Auriol.
After a long absence from the championship, Toyota returned in 2017 as Toyota Gazoo Racing, led initially by four-time world champion Tommi Makinen and later by Jari-Matti Latvala. The team quickly regained its winning form, taking the manufacturers' title in 2018.
In recent years Toyota has been utterly dominant, winning five consecutive manufacturers' titles from 2021 to 2025 — bringing its overall total to nine WRC manufacturers' championships. Its drivers have taken multiple crowns too: Ott Tanak in 2019, Sebastien Ogier in 2021, and Kalle Rovanpera in 2022 and 2023, the latter pair in the hybrid Rally1 era introduced in 2022.
The team competes with the GR Yaris Rally1 and remains the sport's benchmark manufacturer, part of the wider Toyota Gazoo Racing program that also spans endurance racing and the Dakar Rally.
