What is WorldSBK?

WorldSBK — the FIM Superbike World Championship — is the top series for production-based superbikes: modified versions of road bikes you can buy.

WorldSBK — the FIM Superbike World Championship — is the top level of production-based motorcycle road racing. It is sanctioned by the FIM (motorcycling's world governing body) and run commercially by Dorna Sports, the same promoter behind MotoGP, and was first contested in 1988.

What sets WorldSBK apart is the machinery. Where MotoGP races one-off prototypes, WorldSBK bikes are heavily modified versions of superbikes you can actually buy in a showroom, built by Ducati, BMW, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Honda and Bimota. That road-derived DNA is the defining contrast with prototype racing and a big part of the series' appeal.

WorldSBK also anchors a ladder of support classes. WorldSSP (World Supersport) is the middleweight class, and for 2026 it is joined by a new entry-level Sportbike World Championship, giving younger riders a clearer path toward the top.
